The Bible – impossible tales?

the bibleImpossible tales or the truth? Today there are many attacks on the inerrancy of the Bible; sadly many from so called christians.  I am so thankful, that like Timothy, I was brought up with the Bible and my Plymouth Brethren heritage gave me a love and respect for the Holy Scriptures that has never left me –  and I hope never will.

2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

Do I worship the Bible?

Do I worship the Bible, as some might disparagingly say: Father, Son, Holy Spirit and the Holy Bible?  Of course not, but I respect and love the Bible because it is God’s word and it even calls itself the holy scriptures. The Bible itself can’t save us but it’s message can certainly make us wise unto salvation. No other book can do that.

2 Timothy 3:15 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

You can’t understand the Bible without the Holy Spirit

Without the Holy Spirit though, you cannot understand scriptures and in addition you don’t really understand the Bible until you have a revelation that it’s all about Jesus. Therefore, to understand the scriptures our spiritual eyes and ears must be opened by the Holy Spirit – like the two depressed disciples on the road to Emmeus.

Luke 24:27 “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”

Why is it so difficult?

Why is the Bible so difficult to understand though? Why is it that the educated men of this world don’t get it? I mean, they pour scorn on its historical accuracy and yet time after time the Bible is proved correct. I believe that the Bible is purposely designed to confuse us and mess with our logic and left brain thinking? In fact,  Jesus said that he purposely only spoke in parables to the general public to hide the truth!

Luke 8:10 “And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.”

It takes faith and the Holy Spirit

Consequently, It takes both faith and the Holy Spirit to believe the Bible.  Jesus said to the religious people of the day – you don’t know scriptures or the power of God. In our day we are in desperate need of both the word and the spirit.

Mark 12:24 “And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?”

The Bible then to the fleshly mind, is foolishness but the foolishness of God is wiser than wisdom of men. Here a few of its impossibilities:

  • A speaking donkey!
  • Huge city walls falling with just a shout.
  • Eight people surviving a world-wide flood in a boat.
  • The sea and rivers parting miraculously enabling thousand of people to cross safely.
  • A sundial going back 15 degrees!
  • The sun and moon standing still in the sky!
  • A man walking on the surface of a lake!
  • The same man commanding a storm to stop!
  • A man who has been in the grace four days rising from the dead!
  • People speaking languages they have never learnt!
  • Three men surviving being thrown into a very hot and fiery furnace while others perished.
  • Men surviving multiple encounters with fierce lions.
  • An insane man instantly cured!
  • 5000 people fed on just 5 loaves and 2 fish!
  • One man defeating 800 others in battle!
  • A massive and dangerous 9 ft giant defeated with just a sling and a stone!
  • A man born blind healed instantly.
  • Sticks turning into snakes.
  • An army defeated with torches and jars.
  • An axe heads floating on water!
  • Fire coming down from heaven and destroying armies
  • Paralysed people healed and dancing a jig!
  • Water turned into gallons of wine!
  • A virgin birth!
  • A man claiming to be God!
  • A man thrown in a den of lions surviving all night.
  • A man swallowed by a giant fish surviving to tell the tale!
  • The sea opening up for the Israelites to cross over.
  • People living to nearly a thousand years old!
  • A couple in their nineties having a baby.
  • Six days of creation!
  • God forgiving all our sins including future sins.

Shall I go on? Yes, these seem ‘tall tales’ but they are either fiction or lies – you decide!

I believe that all this literally happened and God is still in the business of miracles and confusing our fleshly logical thinking – today!
