Paul Noble ©July 2012

Acts 13:36-37 (NIV) “For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed. But the one whom God raised from the dead did not see decay.”

Proverbs 16:9 “A man’s heart plans his way.
But the Lord directs his steps”.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Your life is supposed to impact others – not be famous!
You are created for such a time as this.
You have value and worth.
You are not accidents.

What is your life about? People around us are searching for meaning. The book of Ecclesiastes is about Solomon looking for satisfaction and meaning. Are you looking for fulfillment – in love, work, religion, music, family, and leisure? Some people think happiness and meaning is found in marriage, children, work and business, even church and ministry or making money. Some are hoping to win the lottery, then everything will be alright.

It’s staggering that people with success can still end up taking their lives. It’s a tragedy when you see people taken early!

Its for individuals, families, churches and nations.

God wants all men to be saved

“That we may live peaceful & quite lives in all godliness & holiness. This is good and please God our saviour who wants all men to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth.” 1 Tim 2:1

God’s plan for every human being is that they be saved.  You can’t find your true destiny without God in your life. Only One Road – Jesus

Matthew 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because[a] narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

There are only two roads. There is only one way to the father. Heaven or hell ultimately are the only two destinations.

We are called to be like Jesus
God Is The Potter Your Are The Clay. He’s Your Maker

He knows your purpose: Romans 9:20  Is 29:16, Is 64:8

Meaning and purpose come from God they come from surrendering to his will. He is the potter and we are the clay.

The first step on the road of destiny is to surrender to God, turn from our sin and self-willed ways and follow Jesus Christ. The road = Jesus. Paul the apostle was on one road and Jesus met him and turned his life away.

God created you for relationship and to praise him

1 Peter 2:9

Is 43:21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

The Father seeks such to worship him. God is looking for those who will GO. David was not God’s first choice.

God Created You To Do A Good Work

Col 2:28 Whatever you do work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Eph 2:13 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do”

Your work is dependent on your gifts and your purpose.

YOUR DESTINY – how to find it.

Finding God’s will for your life is surrendering your own. It’s making Jesus Lord.

Example – Jonah was a man who ran away from God and God’s destiny for his life.

Seek first the kingdom

Matthew 6:31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Relationship – get to know your maker!

A relationship with God. As you get to know God you will know yourself.

Know Who Your Are In Christ

Example: Gideon – a mighty man of valour.

Relationships with people. Be part of a local church.

Example – Elijah was a bit of a loner and that was a major reason for his depression and failure to complete the work.

Step Out Of The Boat – Faith

Some people are looking for God to do it all for them. Some people believe that faith means that you are absolutely certain. That isn’t true. Peter was certain that it was the Lord out there on the water. He made a step of faith literally into the unknown.

A boat that is moving can be turned. Ask yourself does this road need faith?

Without faith its impossible to please God. With patience we inherit the promises of God.

Example – Abraham. Impatience = Ishmael. Saul aborted the will of God through impatience

Transition = change. You have to let go of the old to move onto the old.

The Word 2 Timothy 3:14-16

Faith comes from the word of God. God doesn’t guide us with a GPS he gives us a compass heading and a map!

The Holy Spirit

You have a personal advisor to help you find your destiny!

Be Holy

Get rid of sin and get full of the Holy Spirit. Sin will mess up your destiny. Sins entangle us.

Example: Because of the sin of disobedience Moses didn’t enter into the land

Gal 4:19 “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you”

Hebrews 12: 1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Don’t confuse the training for the destination. Example Moses & Joseph. Hebrews 12, James 1v2

Be a Good soldier of Jesus Christ”

Study, Serve, Work & Help others

1 Peter 4:10 “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others faithfully administering God’s grace in all its various forms”

What are your gifts? Natural & spiritual.

Don’t neglect your gifts.

Serving others God calls us to do things we don’t enjoy – they are part of God’s training and discipline. Hebrews 12.

Your destiny is not so much about what you will do but who you are. We are being prepared for heaven. We won’t sit around in heaven playing harps, there are tasks to complete even in the world to come.

Where is the need around you?

Example Joseph.

Humility is a key. Many people are using witchcraft to get what they want. Saul. David was humble and God exalted him. There are always periods in the secret place where only God knows what’s in your heart.  Pride is a problem

Are You Stuck or discouraged or just stubborn?

Quite a few of the people in the Bible don’t find their destiny – they get stuck.

Excuses – I’m too old?

Jonah! – didn’t want to do it because of his prejudice!

There are rewards. This life is not all there is! We should live in the light of eternity. One day we will be judged.

Solomon asked God for the right thing

God has a hope and a future for you – Jeremiah.

What are we building? Our own Empires or God’s kingdom?

The names recorded in scripture: Hebrews 11. God is looking for faith. Faith is what he is most interested in. The works he’s created you to do flow from faith. Anything else is a dead work. If you feel stretched at the moment and are relying on God and it seems impossible – then its likely that is faith.

Many of us are behind the time but remember God can redeem the time. Destiny is about a journey with God – psalm 84.

Its  a stage process like the Apollo moon rocket.

Remember -enjoy the journey.

How do you run a good race?

As a believer, how do you run a good race? Hebrews 12 gives a good answer:

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us fixing our eyes on Jesus….

  1. Lay aside every weight –  Are you overloaded with unnecessary cares and problems?
1 Peter 5:7 says cast your cares on him. So, do you really need that latest iPhone? Is it really wise to be mortgaged up to the hilt?
  2. Untangle yourself from sin – Sin is dangerous and deadly because it will derail you and trip you up. Romans 6:12 says don’t let sin reign in your mortal members – you’re the boss don’t let sin walk all over you, walk by the spirit.
  3. Run with endurance – Get going, don’t hang around playing scrabble or Xbox! God has laid out a race-course just for you and the heroes of faith surrounding you are watching you run. It’s not their turn it’s yours. Is God interested in your speed record? No it’s an endurance race, all you have to do is complete it!
  4. Fix your eyes on Jesus – Peter only managed to walk on water as he kept his eyes on Jesus. As soon as he looked at the waves he began to sink!
  5. Endure discipline: This is the context for the rest of the chapter: Discipline is not punishment for sin its training. You are now in your Father’s training program to be super hero of faith!  Go for it!
  6.  Don’t look behind you! Phil 3:13 says : “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thingI do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before”. Are you hanging on to you past failures? God always require us to first let go of our past before we can step forward into our future. He closes doors first before opening new ones. Peter by faith stepped out of the security of the boat to walk on water. He had to leave the boat behind completely. A famous example of looking back of course, is Lots wife, who turned into a pillar of salt. Spiritually, that is what we may become if we look back over our shoulder!  Likewise, the children of Israel had a tendency, when things got tough in the desert, to fondly remembered Egypt – forgetting the bondage!
  7. Pass the baton on to others:  You are in a relay race; an endurance race not a sprint. Your destiny is always tied up in the destiny of others and those following. 2 Tim 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”
  8. Don’t give up!  Sometimes entering our destiny is all about holding ground.Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”. There are days we have done everything possible, so this is no excuse for apathy or laziness, but all we can do is stand and trust in God’s to make a way where there is no way.Lets’ be like the might man Shammah. He was not going go let his inheritance and destiny be taken by a bunch of philistines! 2 Sammuel 23:10 “And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines. But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.
